I came home from walking #2 this morning and found Max wiggling his butt and trying very hard to get up!  Poor little guy, but he's working hard and he'll get it one of these days! If there are a few things that Max has always been, they are persistent, a perfectionist, and a very hard worker!  After all he is SUPER MAX!

  1. Good job Max! You can make it! I am looking forward to your recovery. Roxy is having a setback and having trouble walking. Neurologist appointment tomorrow. I took a look at the Minnesota clinical trial page again and saw a couple comments about dogs like you getting pneumonia. Watch out! Here is the link

  2. Max sure is trying! You can see the determination in his face, probably wondering why he wasn't included in the outing. Max just knows in time it will be his turn! Was wondering if Max gets PT? Glad to see the butt wiggle and the waving of his left leg. Prayers for strength to come bit by bit every day for Super Max! Dude and Dude's Mom

  3. Hi Dude and Dude's Mom! Good to hear from you both! This morning we have 3 operable legs and one that isn't quite with the program yet, but it's working on it! No formal PT for Max at this point. I'm doing it at home. We have a small bean bag chair that he lays over and we do range of motion exercises and some resistance exercises. He also does these in bed too. I finally just put him up against the wall today and he's been pushing himself off the wall. He needs to be watched a little more closely now because he can wiggle off his bed now! He's been practicing hard. I've even caught him waking up from a nap and working on trying to move his arms and legs. On Sunday he started to get acupuncture with the electric stimulation for his neck muscles. He's yet to really lift his head and hold it up. He can move it by reflex still (like if I give him a wet willie or he gets the chills, or he sneezes) but nothing purposeful with intention yet. His next appointment is Friday. I'm also looking into trying to get him a sling made. There is a company we found that makes slings that support the head for dogs and horses who have recently gone through surgery or had leg amputations. This kind of sling would be great for Max to hold him in an upright normal position so he can practice moving his legs on his own. We can't do hydrotherapy because of his feeding tube unfortunately otherwise he'd be down the street working out in the hydropool regularly.. He's a tough cookie - he works out with me for about an hour and a half a day and then works on his own as well. Last night he spent about 2 hours while I was watching TV trying to push himself up and get his legs to move in the right direction. This morning he did it for a couple of hours on his own as well. He likes to be watched when he does it I discovered. He'll stop if you go in the other room, even if you can still see him!
